Puppy Love

If you’re easily baffled, this one’s a doozy.

So I’m afraid of dogs. Seriously afraid. People generally either: a) think I’m exaggerating, or b) wonder what traumatized me. Trauma is a harsh word, because I think it was just a series of minor incidents and scary stories I heard in childhood (which I won’t get into since this blog is supposedly about design and style). Anyway, whatever the reason, my fear is real.

This doesn’t explain at all why I am obsessed with cute dog illustrations. I love them. They make me laugh. It’s even one of the things I draw best. And it certainly doesn’t explain why I go out of my way to find cute dogs on clothes for both of my boys and why I know that Carter’s, Crazy8, Gymboree, and Janie and Jack have ridiculously adorable choices right now.

Every time I think about my dog fear/obsession, I think of Batman. Didn’t he take on the bat persona precisely because it was his biggest fear?

    I love the Batman tie-in.

Maybe you are subconsciously trying to instill a love for dogs in your boys so they don’t need to feel that fear? Or maybe it’s just that dogs are extremely cute when not in biting distance?

I thought I was the only person in the world who was also afraid of dogs. I, for some reason, decided to PET A DOG at a playground. It was on a leash and seemed friendly. But when, I wonder, did I turn into the kind of person who pets random dogs?? I’d ask again for emphasis, but you get my point.

I actually like Walrus tees for Marco, but probably cos I know it could easily crush a dog, if it needed to. Ok. That sounds totally mean. I’m not mean to dogs, or other animals. Just don’t have any and don’t plan on it, either. ok. I’m done. Go, Batman!

  3. I feel the same way about cats – but have no desire to dress anyone or anything in kitty clothes. 🙂
