Colorful Birmingham Foyer Makeover

At first, this plain-white foyer in the Birmingham home of Rachel Hardage Barrett didn’t look so bad to me:

And then I saw the makeover by designer Tobi Fairley:

Hard to believe it’s the same room, isn’t it? It must feel great to come home to this kind of transformation!

I love the cohesive, statement-making color palette of light blue, white, and navy, with a pop of fuchsia to keep the room youthful and warm. (The walls are painted Benjamin Moore’s Marlboro Blue.)

The metal lantern was sprayed with navy paint in the same color as the doors—a trick I must remember when designing my own cohesive space—and also matched to the pleated table skirt.

Notice the other custom details, like the 3-inch band of blue outlining the ceiling, the navy tape trim on the white settee, and the matching rug border. Everything works so well together! And nothing looks like it came from HomeGoods… even if it might have. I am inspired!

  1. I love this! It’s so inviting and warm. And it’s refreshing to see color and comfort that’s not also “shabby”. No framed chalkboards here!
