Sigh. This room.
We call it The Addition, since it was built, along with the carport, well after the house was built in 1959. Unfortunately it was built very poorly.
There are so many problems that we can’t touch it right now. The foundation beneath it is sinking, probably because it was built on fill dirt. The whole structure is slowly pulling away from the rest of the house. It means that the floor is severely leaning, going downward toward the window. We tried raising the floor, but it failed.
The windows are poorly sealed, so the left one, in particular, is fogged-up nearly year round. The doors are poorly sealed, too, with a constant draft. And the door on the right is an interior door, for some odd reason, so it is ridiculously lightweight and also lets in air.
The whole room pisses me off. We were going to leave it alone until we could do a proper reno, but in a conversation with our contractor last week, he thought if we replaced the laminate floor with hardwood, he could do his best to save the floor in the future. So, suddenly, we are touching this room. Yipe.
Well, goodbye, ugly laminate floor.
