So, I was drinking African Rooibos Tea this afternoon, and I kept thinking, “This sure does smell familiar.” With each sip, my mind flipped through a catalog of memories, punctuated with scents both pleasant and repulsive, as I hoped to remember whether the familiar smell was of something worth remembering.
I now have two good guesses. Rooibos tea either smells like my old hula skirt, the one we bought in Hawai’i when I was five years old; or, it smells like something we bought in Mexico that I used to play with, but I am not sure exactly what that something is.
If my sister were to smell the rooibos tea, she could probably help me.
In the past ten days, we’ve:
- made our bed every morning.
- wiped down the tiles after every shower.
- washed our dishes after each meal.
- swept the floors every time we leave.
- picked up every crumb, dust bunny, and fuzz.
- cleaned every smudge, drop, and scuff.
- hung up our clothes consistently.
- sold 75% of our books.
and:
- had one public Open House.
- had one realtors’ Open House.
- had four private showings.
- no offers yet.
Our place is actually a whopping 700 square feet, NOT 650 like I thought. Woo hoo!
It was so nice to take a shower this morning in OUR bathroom.
Which is kind of funny, because it doesn’t feel like OUR bathroom at all -- it’s so sparkly and new.
And of course, it won’t be ours much longer.
So, maybe it’s not really ours. But it felt good, anyway.

It sure is fun to make the big moving announcement online! You guys had such great guesses, too -- Bellingham, California, D.C., and down the street are all places we’d love to live.
But we’re moving much farther than that.
In a couple of months, we’ll pack our belongings and move to a city on the eastern shore of the Mediterranean Sea. Haifa, Israel is a city rich in culture, art, language, and both the city and the people are remarkably beautiful and spirited.
We’re really excited. We weren’t looking for this opportunity, but it found us, so we’re embracing it.
More to come.
With all this talk of remodeling and possibly selling our condo, a lot of you have been asking, “What next?” But we couldn’t answer that question, because we really didn’t know the answer.
Now, a decision has been made. We are, in fact, moving. Our place isn’t on the market yet, but we’re looking ahead, and the direction is clear.
So... wanna guess where we’re going?
