Morning Show Debacle

My poor co-worker. She had no idea that an innocent mention of WTMX’s morning show would unleash a torrent of frustration and a one-hour rant about how I am tired of the same old media example of a strong, intelligent man “partnered” with a peripheral, ditsy woman -- the man being so strong that the show would fall apart without him, and the woman being expendable.

Nothing personal against those individuals hosting the morning show -- they are fun, they have fun, and I do recognize that they are not meant to be role models and that the show is not meant to be an agent for social change. However, it seems to me that the reason we are so comfortable with this specific radio show partnership is because it is so common -- we have so few examples in the media of an equal partnership between a man and a woman.

Because of my conscious decision to never be comfortable with this arrangement, I realize I will probably never be able to just relax, listen, and accept the show for what it is: plain-old, harmless fun. Yet, if I am to believe that the equality of men and women will happen in the future, I need to do what I can, in my lifetime, to ensure that it does -- simple and ineffective though my efforts may be.

Anyway... sigh... whatever my view on the topic, I should not have unleashed an uncontrolled outpouring of madness on my co-worker, and I hope she knows that just because she listens to the morning show, it does not mean I think less of her; it just means she is better detached than I am.

Can’t Hide It Anymore

It’s official, people! I can no longer hide it. My hair is going gray.

Wiry strands of silvery-white are sticking up at every possible angle.

I’m actually wondering, for the first time in my life, if I should dye my hair. I’ve never entertained this thought before... but hey, I’ve never gone gray before.

This decision is more difficult than I expected. Big fan of: natural beauty. Totally afraid of: vanity. Not sure how I feel about: getting older.
